Solar Watches
A solar watch uses a small solar cell built into the dial to convert light, including ordinary indoor light, into stored electrical charge. This collection covers Casio, Seiko, and Timex solar models sold in Pakistan, watches that genuinely never need a battery replacement as long as they get occasional light exposure.
How Solar Charging Actually Works in a Watch
Unlike a solar panel you'd see on a roof, a watch's solar cell sits just beneath the dial's surface, often disguised so the watch doesn't visibly look "solar" at all. Light passes through the dial, gets converted to electricity, and charges a rechargeable cell inside the case that powers the movement.
- Fully charges from a few hours of direct sunlight, or longer under indoor lighting
- Stored charge typically keeps the watch running for months in the dark once fully charged
- No coin-cell battery to source, replace, or dispose of over the watch's lifetime
- Movement accuracy is generally on par with a standard quartz watch
Is a Solar Watch the Same as Eco-Drive?
Not quite, though the underlying idea is similar. "Solar" is the general term Casio, Seiko, and Timex use for their own light-powered technology, while "Eco-Drive" is Citizen's specific branded version of the same concept. Functionally they solve the same problem, but they come from different manufacturers with their own engineering behind them.
Why Solar Watches Skew Premium in This Collection
Solar movements cost more to engineer than standard quartz, which is part of why most solar watches here are Casio Edifice chronographs rather than entry-level pieces. A few of these even add Bluetooth smartphone syncing on top of the solar movement, which pushes the price higher still.

A couple of entry-level Casio solar pieces sit around Rs. 7,000 to 8,000, but most of this collection falls in the Rs. 30,000 and above range, reflecting the Edifice and Seiko movements behind them.
