A chronograph watch is any watch with a built-in stopwatch function — recognisable by its extra sub-dials, which typically track seconds, minutes, and sometimes a 24-hour scale, alongside the regular time display. What a Chronograph Actually Does

Beyond looking technical, a chronograph is a functional tool. The pushers on the side of the case start, stop, and reset the stopwatch, independent of the main timekeeping. Many Casio Edifice chronographs also include a tachymeter scale around the bezel, originally designed to measure speed based on travel time over a fixed distance — a detail that trips up most first-time buyers who assume it's purely decorative.

How to Read a Chronograph at a Glance

If you've never worn one before, the sub-dials can look more complicated than they are:

• Main dial — shows the regular time, exactly like any analog watch
• Small sub-dials — track the stopwatch's running seconds, minutes, and sometimes hours
• Outer scale (if present) — the tachymeter, used for speed or rate calculations
• Two or three pushers — one starts and stops the stopwatch, the other resets it to zero
